Meet Resident Tom | Oaks at Braselton

Posted by Oaks Senior Living

Tom, a resident of Oaks at Braselton, received the American Spirit Honor Medal in 1954. It will come as no surprise to those who know him that he was a recipient of this award, which is the highest honor a Navy recruit could win at boot camp during that time.

The local newspaper article announcing the Navy’s award read, “Tom's pleasant manner, youthful aggressiveness, and his eagerness to please and cooperate paid off well in the Navy”. The same applies to his demeanor and commitment to serving others today.

After his time serving our country in the Navy, Tom went on to have a successful career with Xerox Corporation for 22 years. But he maintains that his greatest achievement in life has been his God-given ability to care for others. In his early years, he was widely known as the jovial, handsome young man from Matthews Supermarket, where he worked weekends and summers during his North Fulton High School days.

He has been a blessing to us as an ambassador here at Oaks at Braselton because of his gift of working and caring for people. He always looks out for everyone here and tries to meet their needs. He participates in all kinds of activities at Oaks at Braselton, but mostly enjoys sharing time with his three children, Ricky, Karla, and Brian as well as his wonderful grandchildren. Tom is so very proud of his beautiful family, and we are so very proud of Tom! He is a great friend and a joy to be around!
