Congratulations to our August resident of the Month at Oaks at Towne Lake! Carolyn was born in Atlanta, GA on June 25th, 1923; she just celebrated her 95th birthday! Carolyn’s parents and grandparents lived in Plains, GA where they were friends and neighbors of Former President Jimmy Carter and his family.
Carolyn had one brother and one sister, three of them growing up and attending school with Jimmy Carter. Carolyn was married to a young man she met during World War II. He was an Air Force Master Sargent, and they were assigned to many areas while in the service. Before she was married, Carolyn received her BA in Journalism and held a fantastic job for more than 30 successful years!
Carolyn’s most significant and proudest accomplishment was her daughter, Betty. She now has two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Carolyn traveled a lot, but one of her favorite vacations was a trip to England and Scotland with Betty. She loves to read and do crossword puzzles, and she also has many outside interests. Carolyn loves biscuits and gravy, chocolate cake, and really just any type of dessert!
In her younger years, she and Jimmy Carter were asked to be in a contest – they had to write an essay of their interests. Carolyn won first prize, while Jimmy received second prize! A framed picture of their classmates hangs in the Carter Library today. One of Carolyn’s quotes was…
“A baby is God’s opinion that the world must go on. Be your best and be kind to your family and one another.”
We love having Carolyn in our Oaks at Towne Lake family. If you would like to stay up to date on residents and all things Oaks, be sure to subscribe to our blog!
