Joe H. | Addington Place of Brunswick

Posted by Oaks Senior Living

For the month of July, we are excited to have Joe H. from Addington Place of Brunswick as our Resident Highlight! Joe was born in Huntingburg, Indiana in 1937. Joe grew up on 15 acres of sprawling land with his older brother and younger sister. His father owned a florist shop and a greenhouse that they all worked at as a family. Growing up, Joe was involved in many sports and hobbies including basketball, baseball, football, scouting, and music lessons. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Florida, and watching the Cardinals play ball!

Having graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1959 with a Congressional Appointment to the U. S. Naval Academy, Joe knew he had a calling in life. In 1959, he Graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Degree in Engineering and a commission in the U. S. Navy. Joe spent 20 years in the Navy serving on various submarines and destroyer ships, where after completing Submarine School and Nuclear Power School, became a prestigious Commander of the Destroyer USS Rich DD820.

After retiring from the Navy, Joe spent time in various careers, including teaching high school and community college, manufacturing engineering, and plant management.

Joe has two sons and loves spending time with his two grandsons. Having lived in 19 different states, and having visited 28 different countries, the stories and worldly views he shares are captivating! Here at Addington Place of Brunswick, he is best known as “The Mayor” and is always the life of the party! You can usually find him reading, or speed walking around the property for exercise.  Joe’s life motto is:

“Never stop learning, always keep looking for your life purpose, and keep God first.”

We love having Joe as part of our Oaks community at Addington Place of Brunswick. He has an air of knowledge and prestige that awards him his nickname, The Mayor. He is a joy to listen to and learn from.
