Howard was born in West Cobb County on February 1st, 1936. His dear wife, Jean, was born in Tennessee on June 7th, 1937. Howard and Jean were the first residents to move into The Oaks at Towne Lake, and Howard currently serves as one of the Resident Ambassadors.
Howard grew up on a family farm with two brothers and three sisters. They kept busy with their daily chores, and of course, playing together.
Howard was introduced to Jean by one of his sisters, and they have been in a loving relationship since. They married 61 years ago at Rowland Springs Church, in Cartersville, GA. They did not have children but share their love with many nieces and nephews.
At seventeen years old, Howard went to work at a Men’s Hosiery Mill. When he left there, he worked temporarily at a gas station until he found a company where he stayed for another 28 years. Howard also served on the Cobb County Board of Education until 1985. During these years, he showed his love for woodworking as he worked on building a house for himself and Jean. That home was Howard’s proudest and biggest accomplishment.
Throughout the years, Howard has enjoyed watching Braves Baseball, and fishing at his favorite spot in Texas! He even dug up his own worms to use as bait on those fishing trips. His favorite meal is a delicious breakfast dish. He loves ham and red-eye gravy, eggs, and homemade biscuits.
Howard and Jean loved to travel! Their favorite vacations were to St. Augustine and Daytona, Florida, but they also have wonderful memories of traveling in Germany, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
Howard’s message to the world is, “to be kind – love, and peace for all.”If you are interested in visiting an Oaks community, then connect with your closest community!
