Meet Resident David | Oaks at Hampton

Posted by Oaks Senior Living | 1 minute read

Mr. David was born in Franklin, North Carolina eighty years ago. He was so tiny that his mom joked she had to tie him to the pillow so she could find him! Of course, she, herself, was only five feet tall and weighed about 95 pounds. His mom went on to have three other children, giving David two younger brothers and one sister.

The children attended school in DeKalb County and moved to Cumming when David was a senior in high school. Since he had already had (and mastered) the courses offered to seniors in Cumming, he was allowed to be an assistant Physical Education teacher instead of attending as a student. Of course, he loved it, and that is probably one reason he knows many people from Forsyth County.

He met his wife, Ruth, at a party through a mutual friend after she graduated from Brenau College. They were married for fourteen years before they were blessed with a precious daughter. In the 1970’s, David opened his own business in Lawrenceville, GA., called Sutton Construction Specialty Products. The business was successful and is still in operation today. A few years later he opened another business, DX2 Geosyntex, Inc. with a partner. David could be called a “workaholic,” leaving for the office before 6:00 a.m. and returning home at about 6:00 p.m.

During any downtime, you could find him on the golf course. Both work and golf were his favorite activities, and he was quite successful at both! David and Ruth are members of Bethel United Methodist Church in Dawsonville. During his time at the church, David was Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Building Committee.
