Dolores is our Horizons resident “Super Star” at Oaks at Hampton!
Dolores was born on June 8, 1937, in Woodmere, New York. She graduated from Woodmere High School and took a job with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. While working at Liberty Mutual, Dolores took singing lessons and began to sing at local functions. Shortly after, she started getting offers to sing in New York City! She decided to leave Liberty Mutual to start her musical career singing at hotel bars, stand alone clubs and cruise ships.
During this time, her pianist videotaped one of her performances and sent it to Lawrence Welk. After seeing her talent, Lawrence immediately sent her an airline ticket to California! She signed a music contract in 1960 and moved to Venice, California under her stage name, "Dolores Rodell".
Dolores appeared on The Lawrence Welk Show for a year but decided to return to New York because she missed her family. Unfortunately, The Lawrence Welk show was not taped in 1960, so the only surviving souvenir of her time on the show is a demo record of “Mister Make Believe”.
Back in New York, she took a job at Reliance Insurance Company, where she met her husband, Bob, at a company outing. The following week at work, she found herself in an elevator with Bob. Dolores handed him a piece of paper with her name, telephone number, and strict instructions to call her.
Mr. Bob was impressed that this beautiful singer wanted him to call her, so Bob called her. A year later, they were married and have been for the last 43 years. They have a daughter named Teresa and a granddaughter, Annabella Rose.
Mr. Bob comes to see her every day and enjoys spending time with her. His love for her is priceless. When Dolores sees her husband, her face lights up!
