Jean was born and raised in Carrolton, GA. While she turned 91 years old in June, and she could easily pass for 80!
Growing up, Jean had one sibling, a younger brother named Wade. He was born with a spinal injury and only lived to be 24 years old. As the older sister, Jean spent a lot of her younger years helping her mother care for him. She remembers when her mother had to go grocery shopping and couldn't leave the children at home. Jean would be tasked with watching her brother in the car while her mom shopped. Often people would pass by and stare at her brother because he was different. This upset Jean, who would make faces at the people to make them go away. Because her father traveled all the time, Jean felt very protective of her brother.
Jean married and had four children - two sons, and two daughters. When Jean later got divorced, she decided to go to college. At age 42, Jean became a UGA graduate with a degree in Nursing. Jean worked as an RN for the American Red Cross for 44 years traveling with her job to 80 counties throughout Georgia.
Jean remarried and had over 20 wonderful years with an amazing husband. She and her husband traveled all over the United States and Europe. In addition to her husband, Jean and her two daughters traveled to 11 countries together. Jean and her husband moved to Dahlonega and lived in the Achasta Mountian Golf Community. One of her daughters now lives in Jean's house in Achasta which gives her the chance to come back "home" occasionally.
Jean enjoys living at Oaks at Hampton and has made many new friends. Going out to eat with her friends is one of Jean's favorite things to do, along with sitting and chatting on the back porch. Everyone loves Jean's kind and friendly personality, and they admire her sharp sense of fashion.
