Morris was born in Cumming, Georgia, in 1940. He is an only child and was raised by his parents at the family mill, T. R. Thomas Mills, which was located at the corner of Highway 9 and Spot Road (now called Country Folks Superstore). Morris went through the Forsyth County School System and graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1958.
Morris married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Holbrook Thomas, on Christmas Eve 1959 (before she graduated in 1960). After high school, they moved to Sandy Springs, Georgia, where Pat worked in an office while Morris attended school tp get his degree in accounting.
In 1972, Morris and Pat moved back to Cumming to be near their families. Morris worked in the finance/insurance industry for more than 40 years and had careers at Bankers Fidelity, Southern Educators Life Insurance Company, and Georgia Student Finance. When Morris retired, he became very involved his church and spending time with his grandchildren. Morris describes himself as always busy and has a love for being around people. Because he has lived the vast majority of his life in Cumming, he remains in touch with many friends from his childhood!
Morris and Pat have three children Nancee, Deidre, and Richard. They also have five grandchildren, Glenn, Andrew, Ross, Nate, and Nora.
